THE SMART GOOGLE HOME

Convention Booth + Experience

-Google-

To showcase Google’s smart home technology at the largest smart home convention in the country, a deconstructed home was built in the middle of the showfloor. Each room was modeled and staged as a normal room, layered with all the latest Google home tech and in the style of Google’s aesthetic.

Role: Design Director @ MKG. Concept and ideation, product integration, creative direction.

OBJECTIVE + STRATEGY

Objective: showcase new home technology within a busy convention floor environment

Strategy: build an inviting and unique booth to set apart from the usual static, dry booths of a convention that seamlessly integrates Google’s smart home technology in both user experience and clean, homey aesthetics

Outcome: a deconstructed home made of a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and garage space with hidden and obvious tech integrated in each experience. the space won the “Best in Show” at the conference for its design and experience.

A design language of crisp edges and lines, curved arches and details, and natural materials such as wood and jute brought to life a Scandinavian-meets-tech environment.

The living room and bedroom have Google Home devices, synced up to play music, schedule alarms, and much more. Nest cams keep the faux-home safe, along with speaker and lamp accessories.

Interactive elements educated customers on the connective tissue between all Google smart home products, as well as available third-party accessories.

Each moment of the footprint seamlessly integrated Google products into a home environment. In the kitchen, Nest Protect educates about smoke and carbon monoxide.

The Google color palette translated into a wayfinding system assigned to each of the home rooms. Details like vases, books, and accent paint colors aligned with the color palette.

Graphics layered seamlessly into the home space and served as wayfinding and reference material for the products.
