I joined up with Spotify to bring their Fresh Finds brand and artists to life in an unexpected and expressive space. Samsung, as a leading partner, offered up their newest Galaxy offerings to capture content and deliver an interactive experience within the event. All fabrication (and incredible collaboration!) was handled by Pendulumn Creative.
Role: Creative Director, contracted with Spotify. Creative direction, concept development, user experience, design direction, visual identity development, spatial design, 3D modeling + rendering, graphic design, UI/UX, lighting design, swag design, final onsite execution.
OBJECTIVE + STRATEGY
Objectives: In industrial Chicago during March 2024, Spotify joins Samsung in bringing their Fresh Finds brand IRL to a group of Zillennials, who are eager to hear expressive music and demo new products in a tactile way - all within an unexpected environment that’s built just for them.
Strategy: Bring together a blend of nostalgia in a never-finished environment to speak to the Zillennial crowd while offering unexpected tech-infused experiences to promote content capture and social reach.
Outcome: A collection of raw materials and found objects celebrate the industrial aspects of Chicago, next to colorful, moody lighting effects. Unexpected juxtaposition to the industrial environment comes through in hand-drawn graphics and street-art-inspired organic treatments.
At the counter, choose from a selection of limited-edition branded swag pieces. The bodega brand ambassador packages these items in reusable shopper bags inspired by iconic bodega culture.
Hidden “security” cameras are mounted above the bodega, showing a fisheye, grainy live feed of all our guests (an irresistible UGC moment).
Step inside a nondescript, stickered phone booth and wake up the Galaxy S24 phone. A voice welcomes you to the booth and delivers a message about the power of noise cancellation with Samsung Galaxy Buds. The buds give you the same connection and seamless experience that you’re feeling in the noise-canceling booths.
Against a glowing backdrop of moving LED lights, rising indie artists took the stage, igniting the fans with raw, unfiltered energy. The set design was a tribute to the journey of every musician, capturing the essence of those early days: stickered road cases, battle-worn amps, and the hum of lighting gear.
A bodega offering freshness all around. Chicago food favorites, such as Garrett’s Popcorn, are displayed in branded packaging on our bodega display. Colorful fridges make it easy to grab’n’go with your selection of healthy sodas.
In the hidden ice cave within the bodega, explore Samsung’s powerful Nightography camera feature in the dimly lit environment.
Once inside the cave, hit the Nightography button on the wall to dim the lights and see the power of the feature. Brand ambassadors help you explore the feature and take pics of you and your friends within the cave.
Freezers line the wall with the newest phones on display for testing, alongside ice-cold treats.
To honor the artists, a vibrant mural of Chicago was created, filled with hidden Easter eggs and artist tags, inviting fans to discover and connect.
Nearby, an immersive room decked out in wheatpaste-style posters highlighted the raw power of their lyrics, illuminated by glowing neon. Fans could dive into the vibe, with a video booth capturing their spontaneous moments—singing, dancing, and celebrating the music in their own unique way.
